RBLS Festival of Remembrance - The Caird Hall, City Square, Dundee, DD1 3BB

 

 

Background info: The Festival is a traditional mixture of entertainment and a religious service, with total attendance around 1200-1500 or so in the Caird Hall, It has been held since about 1990.

The event starts with a Parade of Standards and a Muster of HM Regular and Reserve Forces led by RN/RNR, Cadets, emergency services, war widows, poppy sellers, and everyone else relevant. Last on stage, as a climax, are Lord Lieutenant’s Cadets – young people who have achieved the highest honour in the Cadet movement.

Organised by the Royal British Legion Scotland in partnership with City of Edinburgh, The Concert of Remembrance will say thank you through music and song, to those who served, sacrificed and changed our world during the First World War. Narrated by Rose McBain and featuring Isla St Clair, The Band of the Royal Regiment of Scotland, The Band of HM Royal Marines Scotland, Royal Air Force Central Pipes and Drums, Legion Scotland Sweetheart - Amy Hawthorn, Alan Brydon, Ibiyemi Osinaike, Stuart McLean and Erin Ritchie.

Edinburgh Armistice 100 Procession and Service of Commemoration at the Scottish National War Memorial

 

 

Details: Procession from St Giles Cathedral to Edinburgh Castle (following the Remembrance Day Servie at St Giles). Muster in Crown Square outside the Scottish National War Memorial (SNWM) where there will be Drumhead Service on the steps of SNWM including a wreath laying ceremony.

Multigenerational Remembrance Service Glasgow Cathedral

 

 

Details: A multigenerational service to mark the 100 Anniversary of the First Armistice. Organised by WW100 Scotland in conjunction with Glasgow City Council. The service will be attended by over 1,000 people including HRH The Princess Royal and the First Minister.

The service will focus on four key themes - sadness and relief, joy and victory, seeds of change and courage for the future.

Broadcast live on BBC One Scotland, the service will be narrated by ex-Royal Marine, TV presenter and athlete JJ Chalmers and will have a multigenerational focus, with the National Youth Choir of Scotland singing alongside the Glasgow Cathedral Choir. The Scottish Area RNA have been allocated 25 places to attend

Screening of "A couple of Down & Outs". Napier University

 

 

Details: A special screening presented by Napier University and Scotlands War. A Couple of down and Outs is a 1923 British Silent Film described as the Original War Horse. Screening will take place at the Craiglockhart Campus. Event is free and registration for a ticket is through eventbright. Registration for tickets closes on 20/08/2018.

Captain David Seath Memorial Fund Pub Quiz Garvock House Hotel, Saint John’s Drive, Dunfermline KY12 7TU

 

 

Details: Assemble a team of six colleagues, friends or family for eight rounds of mind-teasing questions about sports, film, television and general knowledge as well as our famous picture rounds. We will also provide a wonderful haggis supper as well as sweet and savoury snacks.

The event has been organised to ensure David's legacy continues supporting personnel and veterans living with life-changing physical and psycholgical trauma. So far, over £280,000 has been raised and over two hundred and fifty Captain David Seath Memorial Fund welfare grants have been made through Help for Heroes.
